John Pardey RIBA
Director

John studied architecture at the South Bank Polytechnic where he gained a Diploma and subsequently a post-graduate Diploma at the Polytechnic of Central London, graduating with Distinction as well as gaining the Bannister Fletcher Dissertation Prize in 1983. In 2000 he established John Pardey Architects (jpa) and the practice has gone on to gain fifty-four national and international awards.

His work has been published and exhibited widely and has been featured on national television. He has lectured on his work at many schools of architecture both here and abroad as well as represented young British architects at the 1990 international Forum of Young Architects’ Congress at the University Laval in Quebec. He has taught at the South Bank, PCL, Canterbury and Portsmouth Schools of Architecture, been a visiting lecturer at the University of Southampton and post-graduate external examiner at Cardiff and Oxford Brookes Universities.

John was appointed as a member of CABE’s National Design Review Panel 2009 – 2012, and as Chair of the Regional RIBA Awards in 2010, 2014 and 2021. He served as  a member of the National Jury for the RIBA Awards 2015 – 2019. He chaired the 2019 Grand Designs/ RIBA House of the Year Awards in 2019, appearing on C4 over four weeks in October and November that year.

Carl Gulland
Director

Carl graduated from Edinburgh University in 1995. Before joining JPA in 2007 Carl worked with Kohn Pedersen Fox and Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios.

He has been a Director since 2016 leading a team working on larger residential schemes for clients including HAB Housing, Inland Homes and Q-Developments.

Key projects include the renovation and re-use of a Grade 2, 1936 Film Laboratory building in Denham by the Bauhaus archi­tect Walter Gropius, together with a further 175 new flats and houses on the former film production site; the development of a new residential quarter in Colindale, north London, delivering over 2,000 new apartments on the sites of the former Victorian hospital and former National Newspaper Library; Lovedon Fields - 50 houses and apartments forming a new village edge to Kings Worthy, Hampshire - winner of an RIBA National Award; and Alfold Gardens - 56 dwellings in the village of Alfold - winner of the Homes England Masterplan Award 2020.

Carl is a panel member for Design South-East supporting local authorities in assessing and shaping development proposals.

Adam Jundi
Director

Adam received a first class undergraduate degree in architecture from Kingston University in 2001. He studied his masters in architecture (MArch) at the University of Bath graduating with a distinction in 2005.

He has worked on a variety of projects and typologies including housing, visitor centres, mixed used community developments, and more recently private houses. He has worked at practices in London, Madrid and Beirut, before joining jpa in Spring 2010. He has taught architecture at the University of Bath, and more recently has been an invited critic at both the University of Bath and Arts University Bournemouth. 

Adam became an associate of the firm in Autumn 2012, Associate Director in 2016, and Director in 2019. In his current role he oversees the resourcing of the projects and keenly contributes to design, detailing and contract administration matters in the office.

Chris Gray
Associate

Before joining JPA as a Part 2 Architectural Assistant, Chris worked at Aldington Craig and Collinge between his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.  He graduated from the University of Kent in 2015, including study at Virginia Tech in Washington DC, and then completed his architectural studies at the University of Bath in 2018. Chris was made an Associate at JPA in 2022. 

Chris has been fortunate to work across many projects and sectors at JPA but has in recent years focussed on the design and delivery of one-off houses including; Murrell House, a new-build house on a back-garden site in London, Phillips House, a replacement dwelling on the banks of the River Tamar in Devon, and most recently working on the delivery of two further houses; Page House in Somerset and White Hill House in Surrey.

Alongside his architectural efforts, Chris also takes care of the website, social media and marketing for the practice including, most recently, the commission of a new series of films with the architectural photographer & film-maker, Jim Stephenson. 

When not working, Chris enjoys his native county of Dorset and when weather prevents him from doing this, he focusses his time on playing his tuba with orchestral groups along the south coast and making topographical / shipping chart models of the Dorset coastline.

Tom Hayes
Associate

Tom completed his studies in 2016 at the University of Portsmouth where his work was awarded the RIBA Southern regional prize and was nominated for the RIBA President’s Medal.

Before joining JPA in January 2020, Tom has worked at practices in both Surrey and Hampshire gaining experience across a variety of sectors. This included supporting a local charity, ‘SPUD Youth’ in delivering the Handlebar Cafe in Winchester which was highly commended at the Wood Awards.

Tom's passion for design is providing simple elegant solutions that connect with their surroundings. Current projects in the office include the design and delivery of a number of one off houses, these include; The Williamson House, The Surrenden House, The Fox House, Haflys and Treetops. Tom was made an Associate at JPA in 2022.

Outside work Tom can usually be found on the water, including sailing for which he coaches the Great Britain Junior Team. Tom also enjoys taking on his own DIY projects which include a new build art studio at the end of his garden.

Tyler Holdcroft
Associate

Having joined JPA in early 2021, Tyler brings with him a broad experience in a variety of sectors, with a strong background in housing and residential architecture. At his previous practice he worked on several notable housing schemes, gaining planning permission and delivering projects on constrained and challenging sites across London and the South.

Tyler graduated from the University of Portsmouth with distinction, with his thesis project winning the Hayes prize for critical writing along with a nomination for the RIBA President’s Medal. After completing his studies, Tyler continued his involvement with the university participating in seminars and delivering a lecture on professional practice.

Tyler has a keen sense of design and thrives on communicating a concept from conception through to construction, whether that be the strength of the form and composition, or the subtle detail of the materiality. He is currently managing the delivery of the Meadow house, while also utilising his previous experience working on a mixed used housing scheme in London.

Outside of the office Tyler has a passion for cycling across multiple disciplines, be it smashing miles on the road, exploring New Forest gravel paths or downhill mountain biking in Wales.

Phil Emmett

Phil joined JPA in 2010 following graduation from Oxford Brookes for his undergraduate degree. Whilst working at JPA, he completed the RIBA Diploma in Architecture in 2016.

He brings a wealth of experience to a number of projects across the office including many one-off houses; Muray House, Heather-Hill House, Ridley House, Leyland House, Camlet Way, White Hill House and other project sectors including residential; Littlehampton, and commercial; Bentley Hampshire.

Outside of work, Phil enjoys time with his young family in the Dorset countryside with lots of time spent in his cottage garden growing fruit & vegetables.
